Some hotels were made for escaping in, others for sleeping in, and a few for sneaking around in. In Los Angeles, hotels are are meant to be seen in. The outlook is different here in the city of angels. Not only are hotels marketing to the city’s influx of tourists and out-of-towners, but also local Angelino’s who are increasingly frequenting hotels for business meetings, fine dining and staycations.
You never know who you’ll run into in the lobby of The London, West Hollywood at Beverly Hills. Celebrity and entertainment moguls can be spotted trickling in and out of the hotel’s lower level screening room. Publicists sip post-work cocktails with their talent at the The London Bar inside the hotel’s Boxwood Restaurant. And next to the roof top pool, fashion bloggers edit Instagram away under the chic cabanas with views of DTLA in the distance. I, however, did not leave my room except to go to the gym.
If your bathroom had two showers (one rain shower and one regular shower), AND a bathtub that was made entirely out of marble, I don’t think you’d want to leave either. The well-stocked mini bar and 24 hour room service also helped make this hibernation possible. I was in desperate need of a staycation and I did not intend on being seen.
Most LA locals know that driving from Echo Park to West Hollywood can feel like a road trip. In this case, I was actually excited for the traffic between my home and The London because metaphorically it also meant mental distance. Although I had been to numerous industry events and meetings at The London, spending the night there felt romantic. I turned my phone off, opened a bottle of wine, and wondered if this was how celebrities felt when they finally found silence.
Perhaps The London’s location helps to blend its clientele – both locals and tourists alike. As its full name insinuates, the hotel is located on the edge of West Hollywood just Sunset Blvd becomes Beverly Hills. Although it’s only a block away from the iconic stretch of Sunset, you’ll feel a world away (even if it’s really just a few miles away).
